Bulldogs Welcomes $900 Million All-star Player For The 2024 Season Start Up…

Former Miami WR Colbie Young transfers to Georgia

On Saturday, Georgia coach Kirby Smart added Miami’s Colbie Young as another wide receiver by dipping into the transfer portal.

Young, a Binghamton, New York, junior, will only be eligible to play for the Bulldogs for one more season. For Miami, he caught 79 passes for 939 yards and 10 touchdowns in the previous two seasons. Wisconsin and Penn State were other transfer options that Young thought about.

Young posted on Instagram, saying, “Thank you Miami coaches and teammates for everything.” “Thank you so much for making the experience incredible. I appreciate the support I’ve received from my agent, family, friends, and others in making this choice. Having said that, I have committed to [the] University of Georgia and have chosen to transfer.”

Young, 6-foot-5 and 215 pounds, is the second wide receiver to announce his intentions to transfer to Georgia. Vanderbilt’s London Humphreys, who had 22 receptions for 439 yards in 2023, also is joining the Bulldogs.

South Carolina defensive lineman Xzavier McLeod announced Friday that he’s transferring to Georgia. The former four-star recruit was the No. 134th-ranked prospect in the 2023 ESPN 300.

The Bulldogs have strengthened their receiver depth via the transfer portal for the second straight season. Dominic Lovett of Missouri and Rara Thomas of Mississippi State were added by Georgia last year.

Senior Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint, who has one more season of eligibility, and junior Ladd McConkey, who hasn’t declared whether he will return to school or declare for the 2024 NFL draft, are expected to leave the Bulldogs.

Georgia Bulldogs Lose Promising Young Receiver To The Transfer Portal…Georgia Football: Kirby Smart's philosophy on the NCAA Transfer Portal

The transfer portal has made for an intriguing offseason for the Georgia Bulldogs. In addition to losing a number of players to the portal, another gifted young receiver, De’Nylon Morrissette, announced his departure from the team on Christmas Day.

Georgia Bulldogs Lose WR De’Nylon Morrissette To Transfer Portal

Morrissette becomes the 19th Bulldog to enter the transfer portal. He didn’t see the field at all and is likely leaving to secure himself more playing time. Morrissette had this to say in a statement.

I want to express my gratitude to Coach Kirby Smart, the entire UGA team, and especially to my brothers, coaches, and the amazing fan base. Being a part of an excellence- and pride-driven culture makes me very proud. I will always treasure my time at UGA, but after speaking with my family, I would like to announce that I will be using my remaining three years of eligibility to enter the transfer portal. I am appreciative of the love, support, and time I have had here.

Concern For Georgia?

It’s not good to lose 19 players, particularly when many of them were projected to be the team’s future at a particular position. Kirby Smart, though, proved last week that he remains one of the best recruiters in college football. Numerous losses don’t have a significant impact on the program because there is an abundance of talent joining it. In this new era of college football, player movement is expected to continue to increase, particularly among elite recruits.

In 2024, will the Georgia Bulldogs be able to recover? Their hunger to reclaim the SEC and return to the College Football Playoff will be evident.
