Bulldogs Two Key Starters Defeated Against Florida State Seminoles Ahead Of Capitol One Orange Bowl…

Georgia football: 5 biggest areas of concern ... and possible solutions

Opt-outs and transfers have severely weakened Florida State’s roster ahead of their Orange Bowl matchup with the Georgia Bulldogs. Many playmakers for the Seminoles will be absent, including defensive end Jared Verse, defensive tackle Fabien Lovett, tight end Jaheim Bell, wide receivers Keon Coleman and Johnny Wilson, cornerback Jarrian Jones, and cornerback Renardo Green.

It seems that this weekend, FSU won’t be the only team without important players. Against the Seminoles, the Bulldogs will likely be without offensive tackle Amarius Mims and standout tight end Brock Bowers, as neither player was visible when Georgia arrived in South Florida on Tuesday night.

Bowers is Georgia’s top receiver with 56 receptions for 714 yards, six touchdowns, and one touchdown on the ground. This would be a significant loss. The 2023 season has been marred by injuries for the anticipated first-round pick, who missed several weeks following surgery to fix a sprained ankle.

In an October victory over Kentucky, Bowers hauled in a season-high eight passes for 157 yards and a touchdown. After the regular season, he was selected to the First Team All-SEC. The Bulldogs will probably turn to sophomore Oscar Delp, who has 21 catches for 253 yards and three touchdowns this season, if Bowers is sidelined.

Despite dealing with personal injuries, Mims played in seven games at right tackle, making six starts. He had surgery early in the year to treat a condition affecting his ankle. Against Alabama in the SEC Championship, Mims strained the same ankle again.

In the past few weeks, eighteen players for the Bulldogs have also registered on the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Key Takeaways from the Georgia Bulldogs So Far…

Kirby Smart, Bulldogs comment on injuries, bye week

Players can opt out on both teams at this point in the game.

Having said that, a number of Georgia officials now anticipate that important players will step up. Though they haven’t decided on a specific candidate yet, they intend to use a few guys in those roles.

“You are aware that there are still some unknowns. Well, Ron Courson and Coach Smart will make a medical decision regarding certain players who have been fighting through injuries and receiving reps. However, when you look at it and from that perspective, we get everyone ready. Of course, there are the linebackers. They will need to go and take on more responsibility. However, since Pop isn’t here, they have been acting that way. You are aware, you. Looking at our defense from that angle, I think we’re in a great position because we have guys on the team who have played all season long. And I don’t think we ever look at it like we have 11 starters. We look at it like, if you’re on the field, you’re a starter. And that’s how we prepare and so there is a bunch of guys, depending on the game situation will have the opportunity to step up,” Glenn Schumann, Georgia Defensive Coordinator said.

The main issue is that things have kind of always been that way around here. At the University of Georgia, you are aware that this is the typical outcome when a team is comprised of so many talented athletes and has the caliber of leadership we do. Next man up is always the rule because you never know what might occur. To prepare people for when that does occur, we practice that throughout the season and increase the number of reps we get in. is very important to what we do. It has always just kind of been the case, so no one really gets shocked when it does. And when their number is called, everyone is prepared. Malaki Starks, said Georgia’s defensive back.

“I would say, you know this is what you work for. I mean the moment is here. You know a lot of the time you practice so much, and then you finally get to play. So I mean for a lot of these young guys, you know their moment is finally here. So just take advantage of it,” Kamari Lassiter, Georgia Defensive Back said.

“Yeah just bring them with me, just kind of show them the way, show them how we do things here, and just push them,” Mykel Wiliams, Georgia Defensive Lineman said.

Georgia Starting QB Carson Beck commented on his decision to return to UGA next season.

“I knew honestly the second after the game (SEC Championship) in my heart. Like this, a lot changed, and obviously, I have a lot to think about. But truly I knew like three days after the SEC Championship,” Beck said.

Offensive Coordinator Mike Bobo is planning for guys to step up in start TE Brock Bowers’s absence.

“Up here, we have to say it all the time, next man. You must therefore be prepared for the possibility that someone could fall at any time during a game. We are preparing the men for departure. We have to be effective on first and second downs in this football game, in my opinion, because the team we are playing is extremely skilled at stopping third downs. Ultimately, it will come down to us being able to produce some big plays. Additionally, our quarterbacks must position us correctly, and players must score when they have the chance, according to Bobo.

The run game will also be key in this upcoming matchup, according to Run Game Coordinator Dell McGee.

You must possess some equilibrium. We’re going to try running the football, and Coach Bobo needs to focus on what’s effective, so I believe our offensive line will be prepared to play. The running game has always been crucial, as have all games and situational football, and McGee stated that they simply look forward to the chance to play in the Orange Bowl. “And I know they’ll have a chip on their shoulder because we’re without Coach Searels and they’re gonna play their hearts out because we’re missing one of our coaches and they love Coach Searels,” McGee said.
