Raiders need to take advantage of soft upcoming schedule - The San Diego Union-Tribune

Sean Payton and the Denver Broncos visit Allegiant Stadium for the Las Vegas Raiders’ season finale.

Interim Head Coach Antonio Pierce declared, “It’s 2024, it’s a new year, and it’s a great opportunity to go out with a bang at home.” “Get our fan base excited for what’s going to come in the future.”

At 1:25 p.m. PT on Sunday, play will begin.

The Raiders will play the Denver Broncos to end the season in the same manner that they began it. This time around, though, will appear somewhat different because both teams have a new quarterback.

Goal is for Aidan O’Connell to finish his first campaign with a bang. O’Connell has a 4-4 record after being named the starter in Week 9. He has completed 61.1 percent of his passes for 1,661 yards, nine touchdowns, and five interceptions. Last week, he passed for a career-high 299 yards, which is only surpassed by Derek Carr’s 328 yards against Cleveland in Week 8 of 2014 as the second-highest passing yards in a single game by a rookie quarterback in Raiders history.

The Raiders will face a well-known player this week on the opposing side of the ball. In the final two games of the season, 2022 Silver and Black team member Jarrett Stidham took Russell Wilson’s place as the starting quarterback. Following up, Stidham completed 20 of 32 passes for 224 yards and one touchdown in the Denver-Chargers’ 16-9 victory.

In terms of total offense (285.2 yards per game), the Raiders are ranked 29th in the league; in terms of passing (196.9 ypg), rushing (88.3 ypg), and points (19.1 ppg), they are ranked 23rd. The Raiders are ranked eighth in points allowed (19.8 ppg), 10th in passing (210.8 ypg), 22nd in rushing (122.9 ypg), and 18th in total defense (333.7 ypg).

The Broncos offense is tied for 17th in points (21.4 ppg), 26th in passing (189.0 ypg), 17th in rushing (110.1 ypg), and 26th overall in total offense (299.1 yards per game) in the league. The Broncos are tied for 22nd in passing (233.9 ypg), 31st in rushing (137.6 ypg), and tied for 25th in points allowed (24.1 ppg) in terms of defense.
