2023 presents golden opportunity for Florida State football's resurgence - Tomahawk Nation

In an attempt to win a Super Bowl, running back Dalvin Cook signed with the Baltimore Ravens after being cut by the New York Jets earlier this week. Cook will have a few weeks to acclimate before playing when he joins the AFC’s best team, which is guaranteed to finish as the #1 seed before Week 18.

This season, the Ravens’ running back group has seen some injuries: in September, J.K. Dobbins tore his Achilles tendon, and in early December, Keaton Mitchell sustained a knee injury that put him on injured reserve. Cook will probably compete with Melvin Gordon III, Gus Edwards, and Justice Hill for carries during their postseason run.

During the previous offseason, Dalvin Cook was released by the Minnesota Vikings and signed a one-year contract with the New York Jets. He was looking to complement a dynamic offense with Aaron Rodgers, Garrett Wilson, and Breece Hall, but Rodgers tore his Achilles just minutes into his Jets debut, eliminating any chance of victory. The four-time Pro Bowler has only gotten 67 carries for 227 yards this season, and in the last few weeks, he has only received two or fewer carries in five of his previous nine games. His opportunities have been decreasing.

Cook broke all running back records while at Florida State. He left as the school’s all-time leader in rushing yards in a season and career, rushing touchdowns in a career, and rushing yards in a game and season. In addition, he was First Team All-American in 2015, unanimous All-American in 2016, and First Team All-ACC in both 2015 and 2016. These honors made him the 41st overall selection by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Qae’shon Sapp, a former offensive lineman for Florida State, spent two seasons in garnet and gold before logging onto the transfer portal this past cycle. He chose to transfer to FAMU along with former teammates defensive back Demorie Tate and running back Rodney Hill.

Re-entering the portal was the decision of Hill and Sapp following the resignation of former Rattler head coach Willie Simmons, who accepted a position coaching running backs at Duke.

Sapp has moved in and made his transfer to East Carolina known on social media. Sapp played in two games for the Seminoles during his career, but he spent the majority of his time on the scout team. He made his debut in the 49-17 victory over Louisiana in the previous season, and he participated in three snaps against Southern Miss in 2023.

The guard from Leesburg, Georgia, who stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 325 pounds, redshirted his first year in 2022. According to 247Sports, he was rated as a three-star prospect and the 35th offensive tackle overall.

Following a 30-day period during which players could look for alternative opportunities, the window through which players could access the NCAA Transfer Portal closed on January 2. The following players joined the Florida State Seminoles during that period: defensive end Gilber Edmond, defensive tackle Ayobami Tifase (Georgia Tech), linebacker DJ Lundy (Colorado), defensive tackle Malcolm Ray, kicker Tyler Keltner (Oklahoma), tight end Markeston Douglas (Arizona State), running back CJ Campbell (FAU), tight end Preston Daniel, offensive lineman Thomas Schrader, offensive lineman Bless Harris (TCU), offensive lineman Daughtry Richardson (FAU), defensive end Gilber Edmond, defensive tackle Ayobami Tifase (Georgia Tech), defensive end Gilber Edmond, defensive tackle Ayobami Tifase (Georgia Tech), defensive tackle Ayobami Tifase (Georgia Tech), linebacker DJ Lundy (Colorado), defensive tackle Malcolm Ray, and linebacker Dylan Brown-Turner entered for various reasons.
