Giants Reportedly Re-Signs $900 Million QB Player, Prospect Has Made A ‘Strong Impression’ On…

Who should start as Giants' quarterback in 2024? - Big Blue View

Last offseason, the New York Giants made the decision to re-sign quarterback Daniel Jones to a lucrative, multi-year contract.

Many questioned the Giants’ choice to re-sign Jones, as he hadn’t really ever lived up to the expectations that were given to him when the team selected him with the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Unsurprisingly, Jones didn’t perform well in 2023, and now New York is having second thoughts about him as their starting quarterback.

He will likely remain with the Giants for at least one more season, but in the meantime, the team is scouting some of the top passing prospects in this year’s draft, and former Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy is reportedly someone who recently made a “strong impression” on New York, according to the New York Post’s Ryan Dunleavy on Friday (via Ryan Dunleavy on Twitter).

Currently, the Giants have the No. 6 pick in the opening round of this year’s NFL Draft, and it’s possible that McCarthy could still be available when it comes time for them to make their first selection.

However, McCarthy’s draft stock has been skyrocketing during the last few weeks, and some believe New York might actually have to trade up in the first round if he is the guy they truly want to end up with.

If the Giants are able to find a way to draft the former Michigan quarterback later this year, he would likely sit for most of the 2024 season behind Jones and then step in as the team’s starter in 2025.

That seems like an ideal scenario for New York, but is it a believable one?

Giants’ GM Joe Schoen skips Michigan Pro Day

New York Giants GM Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll skipped the Michigan Pro Day on Friday, bypassing a chance to watch quarterback J.J. McCarthy throw.

The Giants’ contingent was apparently led by assistant GM Brandon Brown and quarterbacks coach Shea Tierney. Tight ends coach Tim Kelly was also reportedly on hand.

Schoen has had plenty of exposure to McCarthy, so perhaps this is some gamesmanship. The Giants met with McCarthy at the NFL Scouting Combine and hosted him for dinner and a tour of the team facility in East Rutherford, N.J. last week.

McCarthy wasn’t the only Michigan player the Giants might have been eyeballing. The presence of Kelly, the new tight ends coach, indicates a potential interest in A.J. Barner.

There was also the report below that the Giants visited with Michigan offensive lineman Karsen Barnhart…..
