Florida State Football offensive roster breakdown for 2022

The Seminoles are hosting their Legacy Weekend recruiting event where they’ll have former players join recruits on campus

Jamie Arnold didn’t get any help from his defense or offense. The Cardinals scored on an unearned run in the first after an E5. In the second, Alex Lodise committed FSU’s second error. Logan Beard followed the error with a two-run homer over the right-field fence. Beard’s homer was the first that Arnold has allowed this season.

In the fifth, the Cardinals put runners on the corners with two outs. On a chopper to third base, Cam Smith tried to get the final out of the inning on a forceout at second, but Drew Faurot lost his throw in the sun as the Cardinals plated a run. Eddie King Jr. followed the error with an RBI double, putting Louisville up 5-0.

King Jr. also threw a runner out at home in the fourth to end the inning. The Seminoles would’ve had the bases loaded and two outs if the runner had held at third.

Arnold worked a scoreless sixth to end his outing. He posted a final line of 6 IP, 4 H, 2 BB, 7 K, 5 R (1 ER), and 100 pitches. The southpaw has a 0.66 ERA through seven starts and 40.2 IP.

FSU put runners on the corners with no outs in the seventh to force Louisville starter Evan Webster out of the game. Tucker Biven replaced him and induced a double play on his first pitch to quiet the Seminoles’ rally. Marco Dinges scored on the GDP after a leadoff triple.

Noah Short tossed a scoreless seventh. Freshman Hudson Rowan worked two scoreless innings. Rowan struck out four and stranded two runners in scoring position in the ninth after a pair of walks.

Biven sat FSU down in order in the eighth. He returned to the mound for the ninth with a four-run lead. Jaime Ferrer led off the frame with a single. Freshman Cal Fisher plated him with a two-out RBI single. An infield single brought Titan Kamaka to the plate as the tying run. Kamaka grounded out to short to end the game.

Up Next: The rubber match of the series will be on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Conner Whittaker will be on the mound for FSU. Louisville’s starter is TBA. The game will be streamed on ACCNX.

The Florida State Seminoles are coming off their first spring practice of 2024 which gave coaches and assistants a chance to get eyes on the team together for the first time. Head coach Mike Norvell met with the media afterward to discuss the session and give insight into day one of spring.

FSU added 23 newcomers to the roster this past offseason in major positions including quarterback. Oregon State transfer DJ Uiagalelei and former four-star prospect Luke Kromenhoek performed well, Norvell said, although there were some missed opportunities.

“I thought they did a good job. I thought DJ had some really good moments, some good throws,” Norvell continued. “Pushed the ball down the field, showed some confidence in what we were asking him to do. With the first install, I thought there were some missed opportunities that we had. You know, thought Luke handled the offense well.”

One player who has stood out in the offseason is Alabama transfer wide receiver Malik Benson. Norvell mentioned his speed but noted that Benson along with all of the wide receivers needed to find a rhythm.

“I thought he did some good things and, you know, like to, you know, I like the speed that I saw today at receiver. I mean, there were some missed opportunities that we had, you know, some of them, you know, really guys that were some of returning guys. We had some balls that got to the ground, we got to be better at.”

With so many additions to the roster, spring will give the Seminoles time to evaluate the team now that they are at full pace.

“This is the first time that with coaches and all of us out there together, to throw, to catch, to do things at a full-speed pace. So, I thought it was good for day one, I’m looking forward to the strides that we’ll make throughout the rest of the spring.”

Practice is set to resume on Thursday as the ‘Noles prepare for their annual Garnet and Gold Spring Showcase on April 20 at 4:00 p.m.
