The Crystal Palace star won’t be available in the quarter final, if England make it that far.

Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi has endured a first half to forget as England take on Slovakia in the Euro 2024 round of 16 fixture in Germany.

The 23-year-old was once again given the starting berth by Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate as he partnered Manchester City man John Stones at the centre of the defence. The pairing has been used by the England manager in every match of Euro 2024 so far.

It was a gutting start to the fixture for Guehi, who found his name in the referee’s book early doors after being awarded a yellow card after just three minutes. The defender had been played into trouble by Kieran Trippier and ended up fouling opposition man David Strelec.

Referee Umut Meler brandished a yellow card, Guehi’s second of the tournament. The Eagles man was also booked during the 0-0 draw with Slovenia on Tuesday.

As per UEFA rules, two yellow cards in separate matches results in a suspension for the next game. That means that Guehi would miss England’s potential quarter final meeting with Switzerland on Saturday – bookings are wiped out after the quarter finals.

Liverpool’s Joe Gomez, Brighton’s Lewis Dunk and Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa could all come in for Guehi for the first minutes of Euro 2024. However, the Three Lions won’t have to worry about that as it stands.

Slovakia currently lead 1-0 after another underwhelming performance from England. That goal came from Ivan Schranz in a moment of calamity from centre-backs Stones and Guehi.

The Crystal Palace player was out jumped in the run-up to the goal before Stones was made to look like a deer in the headlights while Guehi failed to get back in time to recover. As Guehi leapt against a Slovakian man, the players collided shoulders in a clash that left the defender needing treatment afterwards.

Guehi, who is linked with a £65 million exit from Selhurst Park this summer, did return to the pitch after time with the physios but appeared to grimace as he tried to shake off the shoulder niggle. The defender looks fit to carry on in the quarter final but England supporters will be monitoring his discomfort.

Crystal Palace keen on Ryan Sessegnon..

Crystal Palace are keen to sign free agent Ryan Sessegnon after his release from Tottenham, although his fitness issues could prove troublesome.

According to The Sun, Crystal Palace are in the hunt for Ryan Sessegnon, with the 24-year-old ex-Tottenham ace available on a free transfer. The injury-prone wide man could be a shrewd signing, although Palace and other interested parties could dig for more information on his fitness before approaching.

Crystal Palace vying for Ryan Sessegnon

Tottenham paid a whopping £25 million for Ryan Sessegnon in 2019, with the deal carrying add-ons that could have seen the fee rise to £30 million. The left-back’s stocks were tremendously high, so even Spurs did not hesitate to spend that much on a then-19-year-old, although things have gone downhill for him since.

Tottenham decided to let him leave back in May, and the 24-year-old has since left the club upon the expiry of his five-year deal that he signed when joining from Fulham. In this period, Sessegnon only played 57 times for Spurs in all competitions and only once in the whole of last season.

Sessegnon was plagued by serious hamstring issues last term, and clubs will ask questions about his fitness before making a move. Crystal Palace are the latest side to express an interest in signing the 24-year-old ex-Tottenham ace, and his low-cost acquisition could be a big reason why they might be keen.

Sessegnon’s versatility on the left wing can be a big factor for them to consider, especially as the 24-year-old can add quality depth to the bench. He’s definitely not a first-choice option for Palace, who might end up losing both Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze from their attacking setup.

West Ham are also interested in signing Sessegnon, with Julen Lopetegui keen to add him as a squad option for the new season. Fulham are also considering re-signing the wide man, and Marco Silva might also look to add him to his exciting squad.

These clubs are likely to take a closer look at his fitness updates, as they might not want to take a risk on the ex-Tottenham star. Hence, Sessegnon must use this summer well and improve on his fitness to gain the confidence of interested sides, as he aims to stay in the Premier League and get back on track with his career.
