Antonio Pierce explains the Las Vegas Raiders' 2024 identity - Sports Illustrated Las Vegas Raiders News, Analysis and More

Multiple NFL insiders said both before and after Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce named journeyman Gardner Minshew his starting quarterback that star wide receiver Davante Adams could force his exit from the Raiders before this year’s trade deadline arrives on Nov. 5.

Jeff Howe of The Athletic reached out to “dozens of sources around the NFL this summer” and shared on Monday that “some around the league are wondering if the Raiders would move receiver Davante Adams at the trade deadline” if Las Vegas has a losing record after its Week 9 game at the Cincinnati Bengals on Nov. 3.

“They need to maximize their draft assets to find a franchise quarterback, and the 31-year-old Adams isn’t likely to be around when the Raiders are ready to make a playoff push,” Howe added.

Adams was routinely linked throughout the summer with a win-now New York Jets side that features 40-year-old Aaron Rodgers at quarterback. Adams and Rodgers were teammates with the Green Bay Packers from 2014-21 season and remain close friends.

In a different piece published on Monday, Mike Jones of The Athletic explained why he believes Adams will orchestrate a trade from the Raiders to a contender before Nov. 5 comes to an end.

As of Monday afternoon, DraftKings Sportsbook had the 2024 Raiders at +300 betting odds to make the playoffs. While it’s unknown if the Jets could make a trade for Adams work considering their salary-cap situation and the five-year, $141.25M contract he agreed to in March 2022, history shows clubs often resolve cap-related issues to acquire or sign/re-sign proven players.

Adams probably isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, and it’s possible he could help Minshew emerge as a revelation who guides the Raiders to a handful of wins over the next two months. Barring such a scenario playing out, though, it sounds like Adams’ name will continue to be mentioned in trade rumors throughout the first half of the upcoming season.
