The Long Gone Key Player Is Back In Season, Done With The Injury Battle…

Seahawks' Jamal Adams had thoughts of retiring after injury | FOX Sports

After suffering a leg injury in 2022, player Seahawks Jamal Adams is thought to make a comeback.

After tearing his left quadriceps tendon in the Seattle Seahawks 2022 season opener, star safety Jamal Adams found himself in a dark and difficult place.

The two-time All-Pro had to watch his season go down the drain and revealed that he even briefly considered retirement in the face of the biggest injury of his relatively young career.

Adams said, “It was hard.” “I considered giving up my job. I gave it a lot of thought. Will this be my last one? I was ignorant. However, I eventually realized—after receiving that MRI—that I would return. I was going to figure it out, even though I had no idea when or how.”

The torn quadriceps seemed to be the last straw for Adams, who had previously dealt with a long list of injuries since he arrived in Seattle.

The former No. 6 overall pick by the New York Jets in 2017, Adams has also dealt with two torn shoulder labrums as well as less significant injuries to his groin, elbow and fingers. He hasn’t played a full season since 2018, his second season in the league.

Adams has missed 28 of a possible 53 games since he was acquired by the Seahawks ahead of the 2020 season.

“I was having all types of thoughts running through my mind, but at the time when I did tear my knee, that was definitely something I was considering,” Adams, who has three seasons and $45 million remaining on his contract, said. “I was considering everything at the moment. I was in a dark place.

Not on anything suicidal, but definitely in a lot of dark times as far as getting away from the game of football, getting away from people. At the time I wasn’t really talking to many people, wasn’t answering my phone. So you go through real life situations in this game of football.”

The star safety suffered the torn quad during the first half of the Seahawks 2022 opener against the Denver Broncos. The injury occurred when he planted his left foot while reaching for Russell Wilson, who was scrambling.

It’s been a long recovery journey but Adams was eventually lifted off the physically unable to perform list on Aug. 24 but only took part in walk-throughs until he returned to practice in Week 2.

He was a full participant in practice Thursday and Friday.

Adams’ return will be a full circle moment as he’ll go back to MetLife Stadium where his career started to take on the New York Giants on Monday Night Football. It’ll be his first time in the Big Apple since being traded.

“I haven’t hit anybody in a long time,” he said. “I’m looking forward to it, man, I’ll tell you that. I won’t take a play for granted. I won’t take a moment or a second for granted. Just to be able to fly on a plane with my teammates is going to be big for me. Just to be able to come up here and speak is big for me. Just to be able to sit down in the seats when Pete’s up here in team meetings is big for me. I wasn’t able to sit down in a seat for 20-plus weeks, so it’s a real humbling experience that I went through.

“My mindset is a lot sharper. The details of what I went through, nobody could honestly understand unless you’ve been through it. It’s definitely something that I don’t wish on anybody, but I made it out. I’m just looking forward to the journey. I’m looking forward to the season. I’m excited to be back.”
