4-Star Player QB Exits Game With Concussion…

Jets quarterback Zach Wilson leaves game vs. Dolphins with a concussion - The San Diego Union-Tribune

Zach Wilson, the quarterback for the Jets, left Sunday’s game against the Dolphins at halftime with Miami leading, 24-0, one of the most unusual incidents of the weekend for the NFL.

Wilson had some issues before his exit. He went 4 of 11 passing for 26 yards while being sacked four times, and hit many more, behind his struggling offensive line.

Since the Jets delayed disclosing Wilson’s injury, some speculated that he had been benched. But he did sustain an injury during the game on Sunday.

What happened to Zach Wilson?

There was much confusion surrounding why Wilson was taken out of the game. Many questioned whether he was benched due to performance issues or if he had been taken out of the game for an injury issue.

Originally, sportvista Michael reported that the Jets were taking Wilson to the locker room for a “hydration” issue. But later, Darlington reported that New York announced Wilson was being evaluated for a head injury.

Shortly thereafter, the Jets announced that Wilson was out for the game with a concussion.

How long is Zach Wilson out?

Little is known about how long Wilson will be out, as the details surrounding his head injury were murky.

Wilson left the game, and veteran signal-caller Trevor Siemian took over. Siemian is expected to take over in the interim while Wilson is still injured. In the event that Wilson is sidelined for Week 16, the team’s backup quarterback would be Brett Rypien.

Sources: Jets will trade Zach Wilson after the season : r/nfl

Fans of the Jets were wondering if they would get another week of a playable quarterback going into their Week 15 matchup against the Miami Dolphins. After their season’s first week of competent quarterback play, the question was whether the New York J-J-J—ha ha ha! Well. Alright. Again, once. The Jets were hoping for a second straight victory after reluctantly reassigning quarterback Zach Wilson after his encouraging performance in Week 14. I am not capable of it! Perhaps if I drew it.

OK. I think you understand what it is that I am trying to say. The point is, no, it did not happen. After appearing to have a modest breakout of a performance last week against the Houston Texans, Wilson reverted to pumpkin mode from the outset of New York’s Week 15 game against Miami. On Wilson’s second drop-back of the game, he retreated in a panic from immediate pressure, took a bad hit, and fumbled the ball, deep in Jets territory. On New York’s third drive, he took a 10-yard sack, then took a delay of game to stick the Jets with a hopeless 3rd-and-24. He was sacked again on the drive after that, and again on the drive after that. By the conclusion of New York’s fifth drive of the game, Wilson had totaled four completions on 11 passing attempts, for 26 yards, and had been sacked four times for minus-27 yards. Miami scored on the subsequent drive to go up 24–0.

On the following drive, Trevor Siemian took the lead instead of Wilson, which did not come as much of a surprise. Not much changed: Siemian was fired shortly after, thwarting New York’s last half-dozen drives. Siemian isn’t very good. The Jets had an appalling four total yards of offense at halftime. Nothing changed in the second half.

Of New York’s 10 drives in this game, four produced negative yardage. Another two produced less than 10 yards. The four of those 10 drives that did produce more than 10 yards of offense ended in turnovers: one by fumble, one on downs, and two by interception.

Worse, Wilson looks to have had a brain injury: the Jets initially labeled Wilson’s injury as dehydration when he left the game, but they later changed it to concussion. It ought to be mandatory for the Jets to play the rest of their games without a quarterback.
