On National Signing Day, Michigan Welcomes A $700 Million All-Star Player Into The Team…

Ted Hammond Talks New Iowa Football Offer - Hawk Fanatic

Following multiple victories over Ohio State on the field, Michigan has attempted to capitalize on the Buckeye State on the recruiting trail. Ted Hammond, a four-star defensive lineman from Cincinnati (OH) St. Xavier 2024, is one of the Wolverines’ successful recruits this cycle. Mike Elston, the defensive line coach, made an offer to the 6-foot-5, 275-pound player in January after he became apparent as a priority. After receiving his scholarship from Michigan, Hammond would receive several more offers, but after a junior day visit to Ann Arbor, he would choose them over offers from Boston College, Cincinnati, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisville, Minnesota, Oklahoma, and Washington, among others. Since then, Hammond has stuck to his verbal promise.

Per 247Sports analyst Chris Singletary

In addition to playing basketball and baseball, Hammond is a multi-sport athlete at St. Xavier. He used to be an excellent swimmer as well. At the end of his junior year, he recorded four sacks and 41 tackles, including seven for loss.

He carries a 3.81 GPA in the classroom.

“He appears to be a strange front three-four end who can play the five or the six tech. He’s a good athlete who can get off the ball and still have a lot of meat on the bone. His ability to play four sports is encouraging. I think he can reach 280–290 pounds. I thought he resembled Mason Graham. He is obviously sound fundamentally.

Why Michigan?

“I picked Michigan because of the great academics and great culture of the football team,” Hammond told The Michigan Insider. “Also, the location is only three hours away from my house, so my family will be able to attend the games. I came to the decision after a great visit and many conversations with Coach Elston.

“He was very excited (when I told him). He’s glad to get an Ohio guy coming from a great program in Cincinnati. I really like Coach Elston. I have a very strong relationship and connection with him.

Bottom Line:

Mike Elston will be able to shape and develop Hammond into the kind of strong, large, physical, and adaptable defensive front he envisions. Hammond is another excellent defensive lineman. He may not be the most visually striking player, but he is one of the best players you can find. He performs his duties effectively.
