Rough walkthrough Conducted As four Raiders were estimated And Excluded From…

Josh Jacobs injury status: Raiders RB inactive for Week 15 vs. Chargers - DraftKings Network

The Raiders have only held walkthroughs this week rather than full practices due to the short turnaround before they take on the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday Night Football in Week 15. But if the team had held a complete practice, starters Maxx Crosby (knee), Josh Jacobs (quad), Andre James (ankle), and Kolton Miller (shoulder) were estimated as non-participants.

Crosby has been dealing with fluid in his knee during the team’s last couple of games, however, he still participated in 82 percent and 97 percent of the Raiders’ defensive snaps in those two contests respectively, per Pro Football Reference. Meanwhile, Jacobs left the matchup against the Vikings around the midway point of the fourth quarter, and James had to be taken out around the same time. As for Miller, he’s missed three out of Las Vegas’ last four contests.

If Crosby can’t go on Thursday, expect to see the Silver and Black go with a rotation at defensive end that includes Malcolm Koonce, rookie Tyree Wilson and Janarius Robinson. Malik Reed could factor into the mix as well, but Reed was a healthy scratch in favor of Robinson against Minnesota.

Regarding Jacobs, Zamir White is expected to be moved up to become the team’s primary rusher, with Ameer Abdullah filling in on passing downs. Jordan Meredith replaced James in the trenches last week, and in the event that Miller is unable to play, the Raiders usually line up Jermaine Eluemunor at left tackle and use Thayer Munford on the right side.

Linebacker Kana’i Mauga, who was playing in his first game since October last Sunday, was also placed on injured reserve by the team, continuing his unfortunate run of injuries.

In the meantime, NFL Network reports that starting quarterback Justin Herbert of the Chargers was officially placed on injured reserve on Tuesday. Herbert is anticipated to undergo surgery for a broken right index finger.

What Should Woody Johnson Do Now?

Along withDoes Woody Johnson’s team’s humiliation at the hands of the Miami Dolphins in a nationally televised game prompt him to change his management style? The Los Angeles Chargers fired their general manager and head coach just a few days before this game following a brutal Thursday night game. Despite having a backup quarterback and being without their two best receivers and best pass rusher for the game, the Chargers managed to score 21 points on offense against the 63 points scored by the Las Vegas Raiders.

For the Jets to be humiliated 30-0 with the offense not coming close to scoring a point is pretty pathetic. The Dolphins were also without their best offensive player and possible MVP candidate in Tyreek Hill, yet they still easily put up 30 points on the Jets.

Considering how bad they have been all season, the Jets offensive line’s performance was by far their worst of the year. Given that it was 75 degrees outside with lots of sunshine, you can’t even attribute this to the weather. You can throw as much blame as you like on the quarterback situation, but this is no excuse for running an NFL offense. It really is that awful. Occasionally, the quarterbacks for the Jets would take the snap and then quickly flee to avoid being caught in the rush. Becton Mekhi was terrible. He is unable to carry on as an offensive tackle. Becton would have to move inside at guard if the Jets decide to keep him, where his bulk would help rather than hurt the offense.

Joe Douglas, on his first day with the Jets, said “This is a game of wills. And we’re going to try to build a team that can impose their will on other teams and to do that you have to be strong up front, not just on the offensive line but the defensive line.” No one put those words in Joe’s mouth. He said them at his opening news conference the day he was hired.

Joe got a six year guaranteed deal with complete control of the Jets operation. He stated that he had a “sense of urgency” to win right away and to build a team that dominates the line of scrimmage.

All that happened on June 7, 2019, which was 4 12 years ago. This Jets team is the result.

Joe even had time to set up his scouting department, since he was hired after the 2019 NFL draft. He had a year to self-scout his own team, while he also had a full year to scout the college players coming into the NFL in 2020.

Maybe we all should have been worried when it was said about Douglas, “This is Gase’s guy.” Of course, Joe fired Adam Gase a year and a half later on January 3, 2021. This was after Christopher Johnson called Gase a “brilliant offensive mind” at the start of the season, a season the Jets went 2-14. That statement alone just shows you the football competency of the team’s ownership.

I abhor the changing of the leadership positions on the Jets team. It will take time to bring in a new team, even then are you making the right move? Only time will tell, but do you really want to go through this rigmarole again?

It is too late in the season to bring in someone new. If the Jets do make a change, they should keep the current coaches while they search for a replacement general manager. This way the new general manager can have a chance to see a full season’s worth of work in order to decide who needs to be replaced and who should be kept going forward.

You can begin your hunt for a new general manager ahead of other teams who may ultimately take the same action if you fire the current general manager. Furthermore, the sooner a replacement is found, the sooner scouts for the next draft can be brought in. Woody Johnson might seek assistance from an outside firm to find a replacement once more. He will have more time to select qualified candidates if he makes his decision sooner.
