Georgia quarterback Brock Vandagriff announced on Monday that he has entered the transfer portal. According to Pete Nakos of On3, Kentucky is “the top destination to watch” for Vandagriff if he goes through with the transfer.

Vandagriff joined Georgia in 2021 as a 5-star prospect out of Bogart (Ga.) Prince Avenue Christian. He has been buried on the depth chart since. Vandagriff played behind Stetson Bennett on Georgia’s championship teams in 2021 and 2022. He has been the backup behind Carson Beck this season.

Although Beck is thought to be a first-round draft pick, he may decide to return for his senior year in 2024, according to recent reports. Vandagriff probably considered that when deciding to use the transfer portal.

After three seasons, Kentucky is searching for its third starting quarterback. After Will Levis left for the NFL this season, transfer Devin Leary took over as the Wildcats’ starting guard. Should Vandagriff decide to transfer to Kentucky, he ought to be able to begin immediately.

Georgia transfer Brock Vandagriff likely staying in SEC, QB's decision expected soon

After putting his name in the transfer portal on Monday, former Georgia quarterback Brock Vandagriff is likely to stay in the SEC moving forward.

Kentucky, South Carolina and Mississippi State are a few of the programs on the radar. The Wildcats are in good position.

“It’s real,” Vandagriff’s father Greg said of the interest in the Wildcats. “There’s South Carolina, Mississippi State, (Jeff) Lebby is intriguing. It would be hard to go outside of the SEC just because it’s the best conference. It also forces you to play the best. It’s not like you’re going up against the 60th, 70th ranked defensive in the country every week. You’re going against the Top 25.”

247Sports tabs the 6-foot-3, 205-pound Vandagriff as the No. 17 overall prospect in the Transfer Portal. He’ll have two years of eligibility at the next school of his choice.

“If it’s not done this weekend, it will be done next weekend,” the elder Vandagriff said of a decision. He was also his son’s high school coach. “He will probably commit and then go visit.”

Cincinnati and UCF are a couple other programs that reached out to Vandagriff, who 247Sports tabbed as the nation’s No. 34 overall prospect when he signed with the Bulldogs back in 2021. He appeared in 12 games through three seasons at Georgia playing behind Stetson Bennett and Carson Beck, and this fall was 12 of 18 passing for 165 yards and two touchdowns.

Vandagriff will have his Georgia degree in hand as he moves on.

“Brock looks at this thing more I have a job to do now,” Greg said. “Out of high school you’re caught up in where am I going to get my degree, I see myself as whatever. Now this is about what’s the best opportunity and where can I go play right now. He has to go play. That’s the priority. It’s about fit, but it’s playing.

“The next focus is trying to make it to the next level. Who’s going to give him a chance?”

An Athens product that competed in the Elite 11 Finals and All-American Bowl, Vandagriff led Prince Avenue Christian to Class-A Private state title as a senior. Kirby Smart will miss his presence within his program.

“Kirby sent me a text, your son is one of the finest human beings I ever met,” the elder Vandagriff said. “I love him and have nothing but good wishes for him.”
