SAN ANTONIO Throughout the entire afternoon session of the West’s All-American Bowl practices on Tuesday, which were held from Trinity University in the center of the Alamo City, a persistent, chilly rain fell. Nevertheless, in spite of the circumstances, the dearth of linemen for one-on-one repetitions, and the rain-induced early conclusion of the afternoon practice, the 247Sports national team made the most of the action that was available. The top performers from the first day of West practices are listed below.

ALPHA DOG: MARQUISE LIGHTFOOT, EDGE (Miami)

Lightfoot, a top five contender in the 2024 Top247, displayed a powerful get-off that was especially evident during the shortened, rain-soaked afternoon practice. Along with closing juice, a hot motor, and explosiveness, the 6-foot-4, 212-pound edge bender also regularly uses his 35-inch arms. Three potential sacks were noted by Lightfoot during the team scrimmage practice. Lightfoot has tremendous long-term potential as he gains weight.

NEXT TEN: AARON FLOWERS, S (Oregon)

SAN ANTONIO Tuesday’s West All-American Bowl practices took place from Trinity University in the heart of Alamo City, and rain poured steadily and coldly for the entire afternoon session. The 247Sports national team, however, made the most of what was available despite the conditions, the lack of linemen for one-on-one repetitions, and the rain-induced early end to the afternoon practice. Below is a list of the top players from the first day of West practices.

Among the most remarkable performances by a running back that he has witnessed in postseason action—which includes South Carolina Shrine Game week, Under Armour All-American Game practices, and Tuesday’s All-American Bowl—were Frazier’s on Tuesday, according to 247Sports Director of Scouting Andrew Ivins. Five feet nine inches tall, 206 pounds, and capable of three-downs, Frazier demonstrated the quick acceleration and peak power anticipated from the Santa Ana, California, Mater Dei player.

Pine Bluff (Ark.) High’s multi-sport standout showed athleticism, suddenness, and dexterity in the cold, wet weather. He snagged a Hauss Hejny (TCU) intermediate out along the boundary with an impressive leaning grab, then shortly after beat 1-on-1 coverage on a deep comeback after leveraging the defender at the top of the route. A high jumper and long jumper with exciting basketball footage, Crutchfield on Tuesday lived up to his No. 1 player in Arkansas label.

Trey Owens (Texas) post-route pluck to Anderson set up the only touchdown of the afternoon team practice. Anderson is 6-foot-2 3/4, 188 pounds, with a 33 1/2-inch arm and a 9 1/2-inch hand. Considering his size, his athleticism and body control really stand out. In addition, Anderson’s combination of size and athleticism is especially noteworthy in light of his four touchdowns on kick returns in the fall of 2023. He made an impression in drills during the morning session and continued that performance in the afternoon session.

Collins’s competitive fire was blazing during Tuesday’s afternoon practice. A couple of times he made plays: first, he crashed down on a run from the left edge, which would have resulted in a tackle for loss. A few snaps later, he ran the arc for pressure that forced a hurried throw and incompletion. Because of his size and mobility, Collins could offer personnel versatility.

After measuring 6-foot-4 1/4, 299 pounds at Monday’s check-in, the Chicago St. Ignatius five-star displayed promising movement ability and fluidity aligned often as a two-point edge defender. Scott knifed into the backfield a few times and bent the edge on a couple of occasions. His athleticism and size could make him a disruptive chess piece at the next level.

Carter impresses every time we see him. He lacks ideal measurables in the length department, but Carter shows over and over that he’s nimble enough to compensate, and he’s an absolute killer in the run game. North of 6-foot-3 and 350 pounds, Carter casts an enormous shadow, especially aligned at left tackle, where he worked Tuesday and has played for years at Mater Dei. Carter also had one of the day’s positive reps against Justin Scott, standing up the five-star D-lineman and anchoring with body control and strength power to spring a left-side run during afternoon action.

A top five prospect in the state of California, Viliamu-Asa measured 6-foot-2, 233 pounds at Monday’s check-in and showed no problem moving that stout build in space, especially when asked to crash gaps. Viliamu-Asa made what would have been a handful of tackles for loss during the morning session. He displayed broad pursuit range and, despite the ready-made college weight exiting high school, could become an every-down off-ball defender.

Hill recorded the “truck stick” play of the day on an outside run in the afternoon, when he flashed his run-finishing juice that derives from his encouraging functional athleticism and his enormous size relative to a running back projection — he measured 5-foot-11 1/2, 239 pounds at Monday’s check-in. Hill could legitimately play either way in college, but he’s clearly a higher-ceiling prospect at running back based on what we have seen.

— Although the circumstances on Tuesday made it difficult to see the quarterbacks in action, Walker White, who is headed to Auburn, and Trey Owens, who is headed to Texas, both had their share of opportunities. Though the afternoon conditions were awful, Owens improved as the day went on, and White might have had the most consistent downfield juice. In spite of the rain and cold, Owens threw with promising accuracy, and White moved the ball well to the perimeter. This is consistent with the 68.5 completion percentage he achieved in 2022–2023 over more than 600 game throws.

— Although the West did not receive 1-on-1s with squad linemen on Monday, we want to pay close attention to offensive lineman Brett Carroll, who is headed to Minnesota, who played as the team’s center. Carroll discussed home snapping, which is extremely beneficial for this week’s practices both functionally and from the standpoint of projection. At check-in on Monday, Carroll surprised everyone by measuring 6-3+, 300 with a 34+ arm and a nearly 10-inch hand.
