Georgia’s Late Recruiting Push As 5-star Top Player Goes In-Depth….

Elite 2024 ATH Terry Bussey talks Bama ahead of official visit

Nearly one week until February’s National Signing Day, the highest-ranked unsigned prospect in the country was in Athens last weekend…..

It might seem like the relationship between Georgia and Terry Bussey are too new to make a difference for the Bulldogs. That’s all dependent on your perspective.

It’s true the 5-star athlete didn’t communicate much with Georgia until late last month. That’s when Kirby Smart hired Southern Cal defensive backs coach Donte Williams for the same role in Athens. Bussey and Williams had been extremely close throughout the process, and that was an eyebrow-raising hire for Bussey’s decision. Those two were in communication immediately upon Williams’ hire. To make matters more interesting, Georgia hired Travaris Robinson in early January, another tight bond in Bussey’s recruitment.

Georgia a front-runner for Top247 edge rusher Bryce Davis

Greensboro (NC) Grimsley Top247 edge Bryce Davis is one of Georgia’s top targets in the 2025 cycle, and the blue-chipper was back in Athens earlier this month.

The Bulldogs continue to impress.

College football recruiting: Clemson, Ohio State land prized linemen; Georgia poised to flip 2026 prospect

National Signing Day is just one week away, marking the end of the 2024 recruiting cycle. With that, college football programs already have their sights set squarely on next year’s high school seniors, putting together the first pieces of their 2025 classes with commitments early in the cycle and building the foundation for the year to come.

Three high-profile prospects in next year’s class announced their commitments over the weekend with offensive linemen Brayden Jacobs and Carter Lowe pledging to Clemson and Ohio State, respectively, and cornerback Jaboree Antoine announcing his intentions to play at LSU. A pair of highly touted recruits also inched closer to making their college decisions, while a 2026 prospect began to trend toward a flip.

247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins and insider Tom Loy convened on the 247Sports Football Recruiting Podcast to break down those recent commitments and detail Crystal Ball predictions for those on the horizon.

Ivins: “It’s hard for them to get these tackle bodies. Jacobs protected Dylan Raiola this past season at Buford High School. Got a chance to see him multiple times in person. He is all of 6-7, 300 pounds. I think that one stands out to me, because you can’t get these kids in the transfer portal. You’re not investing anything in the transfer portal, so you need to keep volume shooting at offensive tackle. I think Jacobs, at this stage right now with a year to go, is one of the tackle prospects I feel pretty good about.”

Ivins: “I think he’s an early candidate for that fifth star. Pretty soon here we’re going to have to roll out our full 32-player field. Carter is someone that is going to be heavily in that conversation. When we updated that Top247 for 2025 two months ago, he’s someone I came across. And if you go into what I wrote, I said ‘Big fan here. Looks twitched up and like someone that can move his feet and recover.’ Not sure he’s a clean tackle projection, but I want this guy on my team.”

Ivins: “One of the top prospects in-state. It’s funny, because he was on one of the rosters at the Battle Miami tournament. He was supposed to be playing with the Louisiana Bootleggers. I asked the coaches, ‘Where is Jaboree?’ And they’re like, ‘Oh, he’s not here. He’s on a visit to LSU.’ I think then 20 minutes after that, you had a Hayes Fawcett Tweet announcing the commitment to LSU. Guy we saw at the Future 50.

“I think physically he was a little under-developed, so I was hoping to see him in person again. He’s over six-foot. He also plays quarterback on Friday nights. Like that in a DB. He’s able to react. Good feel for the football. So developmental upside there. You think about Corey Raymond coaching him up. Nice get for the Tigers. They need all the help they can get in the secondary, and corners are hard to come by.”

Loy: “He’s looking at Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Miami. Those are the heavy-hitters in play at this point. But I’m going to go ahead and throw in a Crystal Ball pick for Notre Dame. I think Joe Rudolph, Mike Denbrock, Chad Bowden, Marcus Freeman and even quarterback commit Deuce Knight doing a great job there. So I like the Irish to get that one done.”
