The Lions are getting new uniforms, and their highest-paying customers will get dibs on seeing them first.

Yes, one of the perks for paying a “hefty” price increase for season tickets is an invitation to see the unveiling of the new uniforms.

Via Justin Rogers of the Detroit News, the team has sent an exclusive invitation to season-ticket holders on Thursday morning. The event happens at Ford Field on April 18.

Some of the players have seen the new uniforms, while attending a two-day multimedia shoot. The team locked up the devices of those who attended in order to prevent leaks.

Jared Ramsey of the Detroit Free Press notes that team president Rod Wood said the team will continue to use the Honolulu Blue and silver color scheme “with a little updating and twists.”

Hopefully, they’ll look more traditional. More likely, it’ll be another example of the ongoing Nikefication of the NFL. We’ll find out in less than three weeks.

For the Detroit Lions, players like wide receiver Kalif Raymond and cornerback Emmanuel Moseley likely fall into the category of those who will be rehabbing injuries during Phase 1.

Phase Two consists of the next three weeks of the program. On-field workouts may include individual or group instruction and drills, as well as “perfect play drills,” and drills and plays with offensive players lining up across from offensive players and defensive players lining up across from defensive players, conducted at a walk-through pace. No live contact or team offense vs. team defense drills are permitted.

Phase Three consists of the next four weeks of the program. Teams may conduct a total of 10 days of organized team practice activity, or “OTAs”. No live contact is permitted, but 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills are permitted.

No live contact is permitted during any offseason training work. Some teams (never the Lions, if memory serves) have gotten into trouble with the league for violating that rule over the years though.

For Phase Two, the on-field work can begin with individual or group drills, provided that the offense only works with the offense and the defense works with the defense. Additionally, this phase is worked at a walk-through pace.

The final stage of the offseason program is the Organized Team Activities (OTAs) and minicamp. During that time, no live contact is allowed, but teams may run offense vs. defense drills, including 7-on-7s, 9-on-7s, and 11-on-11s. In Phase Three, the Detroit Lions will have some media availability, giving reporters their first true look at the 2024 Lions team.
