College Football Insider Reveals How Long Kirby Smart Might Coach At Georgia - Athlon Sports

This past offseason, the college football world was shocked to learn that legendary Alabama head coach Nick Saban was stepping away from coaching. After Saban’s retirement, there are only three active head coaches that have won a national championship: North Carolina’s Mack Brown, Clemson’s Dabo Swinney, and Georgia’s Kirby Smart.

Given his age, Brown is expected to be the next legendary head coach to announce his retirement, but when could Smart decide to retire? Smart is only 48 years old, so it does not seem like it would be anytime soon.

Georgia Bulldogs’ insider for On3, Rusty Mansell, appeared on the That SEC Podcast, saying Smart’s kids could play a role in his decision. Still, he doesn’t think the end of Smart’s time as coach will be anytime soon.

“I wonder if five or six years down the line what does Kirby do with him (one of his sons) you know, with playing football stuff like that,” Smart said. “Does he say, ‘Hey, I’m going to watch my kid play. Those guys like Saban, Kirby, all of these guys, Heupel, they are just wired to do this man. They don’t cut grass, can’t start a green egg, can’t change a car tire. They just aren’t wired to do that.”

Mansell does not think there will be many coaches like Bobby Bowden and Nick Saban who coach into their 70s. Still, Smart is 22 years from being 70. So, unfortunately for fans of other teams, it doesn’t look like Georgia will be going anywhere anytime soon.

Smart is 94-16 over the past eight seasons with the Bulldogs. He led the program to its first national championship since 1980, winning back-to-back CFP National Championships in 2021-22. Under Smart, Georgia has won two SEC championships and six SEC East division titles.

Ohio State Football Fans Feeling Slighted After Media Outlet Gives Buckeyes Brutal Transfer Portal Grade….

The Ohio State football team, a beacon of success in college football history, has stacked numerous accomplishments over their storied tenure. The Buckeyes have consistently proven their elite status with eight national titles, 27 bowl victories, 105 weeks ranked top in the AP Poll, and six Heisman Trophy winners. Despite a challenging transfer portal window this year, they remain a force to be reckoned with, standing tall alongside the Georgia Bulldogs, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Michigan Wolverines.

However, according to Jacey Zembal of Rivals, Ohio State, alongside lowly Illinois and highly ranked Penn State, had the worst outcome via the portal’s spring window heading into the 2024 campaign. Zembal gave the three programs a C- for their efforts. Naturally, Ohio State fans quickly jumped on Zembal for showing little love to the Buckeyes.

Fans React to Receiving Poor Spring Transfer Portal Grade

The Ohio State football program had a quiet spring window of the transfer portal, with just one new addition heading to Columbus, Ohio. Former South Carolina corner Keenan Nelson Jr. joined the Buckeyes earlier this month. The six-foot-one defensive back failed to produce over the past two seasons but was a four-star recruit in the class of 2022. Departing Ohio State during the spring window was wideout Kyion Grayes II, running back Dallan Hayden, safety Cedric Hawkins, offensive lineman Enook Vimahi, and defensive back Ja’Jad Carter. Grayes failed to record a reception last year, while Hayden received only 19 carries. Meanwhile, Carter and Hawkins combined for five tackles in 2023.

With Ohio State’s losses this spring minimal and the prime additions signing during the winter period, Buckeyes fans were happy with the roster shakeup heading into the summer.
