Another 4-star is projected to commit to UGA football - Yahoo Sports

Four-star safety recruit Rashad Johnson is projected to commit to the Georgia Bulldogs over the Penn State Nittany Lions, Louisville Cardinals and Texas A&M Aggies. Steve Wiltfong of On3 recently made the prediction. He also predicted Georgia to land another four-star safety.

Johsnon, who is a member of the 2025 recruiting cycle, recently pushed back his commitment date from July 1 to July 14. 6-foot-2, 185-pound safety plays high school football for South Sumter High School in Bushnell, Florida.

The South Sumter defensive back also plays wide receiver. In his highlights, Johnson displays good ball skills and athleticism. The four-star frequently delivers tight coverage and is a strong tackler.

Rashad Johnson is ranked as the No. 360 prospect in the nation, per On3. Johnson is ranked as the No. 49 recruit in Florida and the No. 33 safety in the country.

Georgia does not have any commitments from defensive backs right now in the class of 2025, but fans should expect for that to change very soon.Georgia football currently has the third-ranked recruiting class in the nation behind Alabama and Ohio State. The Bulldogs have 17 commitments in the class of 2025.

College Football Powerhouse Ranked Among Most Overrated Teams Since 2010

The Georgia Bulldogs seem to be college football’s next dynasty. The Bulldogs have won two of the last three national titles, and if Georgia hadn’t been upset in the SEC championship game last season, the Bulldogs had a good chance of making it three straight.

However, the Georgia Bulldogs were not always dominant. In the 2010s, the Bulldogs had several good seasons, but only won one conference championship and no national championships.

Georgia finished unranked four times after being in the preseason top 25, leading 247Sports’ Brad Crawford to claim that the Bulldogs are one of the most overrated teams since 2010.

“Only once during Kirby Smart’s tenure have the Bulldogs been ranked in the preseason and not in the final AP Poll, that coming in 2016 when he was a wet-behind-the-ears, first-time head coach,” Crawford said. “Since, Georgia has won two national championships and—most likely—will be the preseason No. 1 in August. Under Mark Richt, the Bulldogs finished unranked three times since 2010, after opening the season inside the top 25 (2010, 2013, 2015).”

After being in the preseason top 25, Georgia has four unranked finishes, which ties the Bulldogs for No. 8 in the country with the Texas Longhorns and Auburn Tigers. The USC Trojans, Wisconsin Badgers and Texas A&M Aggies are tied for No. 1 with six such finishes.

If Kirby Smart maintains the positive momentum he has built over the past few seasons, he likely won’t see his numbers increase anytime soon.

South Carolina CB commit Shamari Earls breaks down Georgia, Michigan push

One of the best players in the country, 4-star cornerback Shamari Earls is coming up on a final decision.

The 6-foot-1 cornerback from Thomas Dale (Va.) wrapped up his visit schedule in June. Now he turns his attention to a critical recruiting decision. Earls took two official visits in June, to Georgia and to Virginia. He also took an unofficial visit to Michigan who requires recruits to take unofficials before they take official visits, so he still has that Michigan official in his back pocket. South Carolina was on his official visit schedule at the beginning of the month, but the Gamecocks shifted some things around so he could still take that official later too.

The worst coaches of all time

The Georgia Bulldogs are on top of the college football mountain seemingly ever since Kirby Smart arrived in 2016. After his first season in 2016 where the Bulldogs went 8-5, Smart has had double digit wins aside from 2020 where teams had a shortened schedule due to the pandemic.

Smart’s reign has included three college football playoff appearances, and back-to-back national championships in 2022 and 2023. The only other coach that comes close to the success Smart has had during his time as the head man with the Bulldogs is the late Vince Dooley. Dooley himself led the Bulldogs to a national championship in 1980.

Not all Georgia coaches however have had the same level of success. Names like Mark Richt had some, but comparatively speaking to Smart and Dooley it was moderate. On the opposite end of the spectrum, some had hardly any success at all since the SEC was formed in 1933.

Who are the worst coaches in the history of Georgia Football?

Johnny Griffith (1961-1963)

Griffith only coached the Bulldogs for three seasons. And for good reason- his combined coaching record was 10-16, with an SEC conference record of 6-12. Griffith only continued the downward trajectory that his predecessor Wallace Butts had started before him, and was quickly ousted from his head coaching position.

James Wallace “Wally” Butts (1939-1960)

Butts managed to coach the Bulldogs for 22 years and had six wins or less in 13 of those seasons. Many ups and down through his tenure however did see some positives, including four SEC titles and one undefeated season. The successes were spread apart it seems at just the right spacing for Butts to keep his job for 22 years.

Other names worth mentioning before the Bulldogs joined the SEC were Charles Barnard (1904) and Marvin Dickinson (1905) who each led the Bulldogs to 1-5 records in back-to-back seasons.
