When Kevin Harvick announced he was bringing back the No. 29 car that he made famous with Richard Childress Racing for one final ride, the buzz around the Nascar garage was quite loud.

The No. 29 car was the ride Harvick took over after Dale Earnhardt’s death in 2001. It was the car that he drove until he left RCR at the end of the 2013 season. So as part of Harvick’s retirement tour, how could he not pay homage to his epic win at Atlanta Motor Speedway, where he out-dueled Jeff Gordon to the line?

Well, Harvick and Stewart-Haas Racing worked out a deal with RCR to allow the 2014 Cup Series champion to have one last ride in the No. 29 car. Harvick ran the number and scheme during the All-Star Race in Nascar’s return to North Wilkesboro Speedway, where he finished 18th.

Now, Lionel Racing, Nascar’s official diecast car partner, announced Harvick’s North Wilkesboro Speedway car is the top-selling diecast car in 2023. Harvick and SHR had a major merchandise push throughout his retirement tour, which saw an influx of new Harvick gear.

“The whole sport has gone through a revolution,” Howard Hitchcock, CEO of Lionel Racing, said in 2022. “There is a lot of positive momentum going around right now with the new car, which is certainly a huge effort. Nascar has really changed the face of the sport with the product that’s on track.”

Erik Jones Guns N’ Roses Chevrolet for Legacy Motor Club was second on the list, followed by Kyle Busch’s Lucas Oil Chevrolet from his win at Auto Club Speedway, Ryan Blaney’s championship-winning Dutch Boy/Menards Ford and Dale Earnhardt Sr.’s 25th anniversary Daytona 500 win car.

Last year, Ross Chastain’s video game move car from Martinsville, the one that went viral and was seen by millions of viewers on social media, was the top-selling diecast. Chastain charged into the final set or corners at Martinsville on Oct. 30, 2022 by riding the wall like he saw in Nascar 2005 to edge out Denny Hamlin for a shot at competing for the Cup Series championship at Phoenix Raceway the next week. Chastain did not make it onto this year’s top-10 list.

Shane van Gisbergen came in seventh on the list after his Chicago Street Race win with Trackhouse Racing. van Gisbergen will run the full Xfinity Series season in 2024 with Kaulig Racing, along with a handful of starts in the Cup Series for Trackhouse Racing once again.
